First Baptist ChurchScholarship MemorialFunds
First Baptist Church Scholarship program awards scholarships to qualifying applicants. These are not loans, but outright grants. Grants vary each year according to the applicant's financial need, as well as the number of applicants and the amount of funds available. Repeat scholarships may be granted to applicants, with the understanding that priority will be given to first time applicants. WILLIAM AND MADGE HOUSER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND: William and Madge Houser were active and dedicated members of First Baptist Church. Both supported the ministry of the church by serving for many years on various boards and committees. They always appreciated young people and expressed a deep interest in their future. A special bequest from their estate now provides financial assistance for young people, who are members of the Church, and are seeking education beyond high school. REVEREND & MRS. W. H. PARKER MEMORIAL FUND FOR CHRISTIAN EDUCATION: The Reverend W. H. Parker completed 45 years of Christian Ministry as a Baptist Pastor. This Memorial fund was established in honor of Reverend and Mrs. Parker by their son, Dr. Minton Parker and his wife Gladys, who were longtime members of First Baptist Church. They were eager to provide assistance to further the education of students of Christian background, especially those preparing for full time Christian ministry or service. In 1994, an additional gift from the Estate of Mrs. Dorothy Crowder Chessman was added to this Memorial fund. The gift is in loving memory of her husband, Dr. George W. Chessman, who was the Minister of First Baptist Church from 1923 to 1940. MICHAEL HINSON WHITE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND: In March 1984, at the request of the parents of Michael Hinson White, First Baptist Church established a Memorial fund in his honor. Michael White from early childhood attended First Baptist Church. He was a seeker after truth and beauty. In his life he gave both mind and heart to his quest.
