The Body of Deacons

Diaconate Mission Statement:

The Diaconate Mission is to serve God by providing Christian leadership to the congregation through worship, outreach and care.

Greetings from the Diaconate!

Members of the Diaconate have been working in conjunction with Pastor Bayes and Garland Criswell on five new subcommittees to benefit our ever-growing membership. We are very excited about the opportunities these committees can bring.

Hospital Visitation Team

It is the intention of this team to augment the pastors’ visits to each member who is hospitalized. In this way, multiple visits can be made to anyone admitted to any hospital.

Bereavement Team

The team provides for the needs immediately after the loss and continuing support over the next two to three years if necessary.

Nursing Home Team

The team is supplementing monthly visits done by the pastoral staff. The team has also taken responsibility for sending birthday, anniversary, etc. cards to any member living in our vast network of nursing homes.

Homebound Visitation Team

The team makes visits to both long term and short term homebound members,.

Congregational Care Team Ministry

The congregation is divided into fifteen to twenty Care Teams headed by a specially trained Care Team Coordinator. The team coordinator is regularly be in contact with those persons on his/her team extending appropriate care and concern. Team coordinators would meet monthly with the pastoral staff to discuss ways to better extend care within our church family.

We all know people at First Baptist Church whose acts of kindness and concern are exhibited each day. The Diaconate believes this new ministry will be another way of expressing, as in the words of our church Mission Statement, “ ...that all may experience the love and grace of God”

If you have questions, suggestions or concerns, please see a diaconate member or Pastor Bayes.

Note:
These teams are, by no means, limited to just Diaconate Members. If you are interested in helping on any and or all of these new subcommittees, please don’t hesitate to contact the team leader, the church office, or any member of the Diaconate. Over the next few weeks, we will be including updates about each individual team in the newsletter.
