Adopt-a-School

2009-2010 will be our 9th year with an Adopt-a-School relationship with Hines Elementary School (K-4). The purpose of the program is to create a partnership to enhance the educational program of the school. The program seeks to use the expertise of church volunteers to improve the educational opportunities for the children of the school.

The program seeks to:

The greatest need is for adult-child interactions.

Church volunteers are asked to spend one hour a week working individually with 1 or more students as a reading tutor. The school and the Volunteer Coordinator, Dale Ryan, will determine scheduling.

We need 10 volunteers for our ministry with the school.

Training will be done by District 150. A part of this preparation includes a background check to meet state requirements.

Benefits for the church include personal satisfaction from working with students and staff. The students develop relationships with caring role models.

Benefits for the school include improvement in the quality of educational programming, enhanced learning for students, and a partnership with a neighborhood organization.

Tutoring is scheduled on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9:00 to 2:00, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 to 12:00 and from 1:15 to 1:45, and on Thursdays from 2:00 to 3:00.

Persons interested in the tutoring program with Hines School are invited to call the church office (309-682-5491) for more information.
